Newcastle United latest news: Alan Shearer has picked out three Magpies players for criticism following their defeat to Sunderland. Alan S...
Alan Shearer has not held back on his assessment of Newcastle United’s performance in the Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday, describing the performance as ‘pathetic’.
The Magpies were blunt in attack and barely tested Black Cats goalkeeper Robin Roefs, with their first shot on target coming from a tame effort by Bruno Guimaraes around 20 minutes into the second half. As they pressed for an equaliser, Roefs was simply required to come and collect floated crosses and too often simply fall calmly onto efforts that lacked any power.
Their struggles in-front of goal earlier this season were well documented, but they had seemingly turned a corner in recent times, having netted in 17 consecutive games. However, all of their underlying issues came to the fore on Sunday as they left Wearside goalless and pointless.
