Rangers 'have to cut their losses' with summer signing unless two things change as brutal verdict airedLivingston coach Marvin Bartley doesn't believe this Rangers player was worth what the club paid for himLivingston coach Marvin Bartley doesn't believe this Rangers player was worth what the club paid for himRangers have been encouraged to consider selling summer signing Youssef Chermiti if his form does not improve. Livingston assistant coach Marvin Bartley has picked up on the striker’s lack of output and believes Danny Rohl is struggling with a decision to make.
Rangers made Chermiti their second most expensive signing of all time when they brought him in from Everton. The Light Blues forked out £8 million to sign the 21-year-old, who spent most of last season on the sidelines injured.
Chermiti signed while former sporting director Kevin Thelwell was still at the club. It marked the second time he had poached the striker, having also previously brought him to Everton from Sporting in 2023. Thelwell has since been sacked alongside CEO Patrick Stewart, following an underwhelming transfer window.
Since his arrival at Ibrox, Chermiti has made 19 appearances in all competitions but has managed to score just two goals.

Danny Rohl ‘between a rock and a hard place’ with Youssef Chermiti
Livingston coach Bartley feels Rangers must quickly find a way to get the best out of Chermiti or bite the bullet and sell him on, despite him only joining the club in September.
“The club find themselves in a difficult situation because ultimately, you've paid £8-£10 million for somebody to come into your football club which is a hefty price in Scottish football,” Bartley told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (via Record Sport).
“The manager is probably thinking, in order for us to get him out he probably needs to play. If he is playing and misses a chance when he's through on goal and falls over the ball, he's going to cost you at some point as well.
“He's stuck between a rock and a hard place because if he's not playing for Rangers and the January window comes and they try to offload him on loan or permanently, his value is going to have dropped significantly.”

Brutal verdict given on Youssef Chermiti’s place at Rangers
To Bartley, Chermiti ‘has not looked like an £8 million signing’ and he has pointed the finger at Rangers’ recruitment team for that.
Livingston are back in the Scottish Premiership this season after earning promotion through the play-offs. They faced Rangers last month at Ibrox at it took a late goal from Mohamed Diomande to snatch all three points, after Livi’s Tete Yengi looked to spoil the Gers’ day with a draw.
“When you spend that sort of money on a centre-forward, they have to do a lot, lot more. It's not always about scoring goals, if you're not scoring goals and the rest of your game is really tidy, people can overlook that,” Bartley continued.
“But for me, he's not looked like an £8 million signing at all and that falls on the recruitment team. It could be one of the reasons he was moved on as well. It's not £500k for a player, it's £8 million with the wages on top of that. Someone has ultimately lost their job over it.
“But they need to find a way to get him in the team and get him performing well enough, or they are going to have to cut their losses and move him on.”
