Newcastle are back in Champions League action this week, taking on Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday night. Heading to Germany, ...
Heading to Germany, we currently sit 11th out of 36 in the league phase, meaning we’re currently in position to face a play-off tie to reach the knockout stages, with the top eight guaranteed through and sides placed 9th to 24th then given a two-legged game to progress.
With all of that in mind, here are the current standings heading into a busy 24 hours of Champions League football, along with all of the matchday five fixtures and our run in:
Current standings
Nine points on the board, nine more points up for grabs and interesting to note that 16 points was enough for Aston Villa to finish 8th and qualify automatically last season, with 11 points the benchmark to secure a place in the top 24 and ensure a two-legged play-off decider.
