'Nancy and the board' - Angry Celtic fans react after losing to Rangers

It would be an understatement to say Celtic fans were not happy after losing to the Rangers at home.

Congratulations to the Celtic board for the remarkable job they have done in bringing the club to this point. Two wins in eight games since their brilliant managerial appointment. Wonderful. And congratulations to Wilfried Nancy as well. What an introduction to European football he has had. In his mind, he is a top manager for sure.

Let's get back to reality now. If Nancy is not shown the exit door tonight, there is something seriously going wrong at Celtic.

It would be a clear sign that some people might be more concerned about proving themselves right rather than worrying about the well-being of the club. When Russell Martin's Rangers spell went off the tracks, and it had never gotten this bad even for him, they made the change at the right time. When will Celtic wake up? Isn't this supposed to be a 'world-class football club'?

Going into the Glasgow Derby, we all knew there was a good chance that Celtic could lose. We had seen nothing during the Nancy era to suggest that he was capable of dealing with this kind of fixture. Unfortunately, we were proven right. The only surprise on the day was the world-class goal that Yang Hyun-jun scored to put the Hoops.

'Nancy and the board' - Angry Celtic fans react to Glasgow Derby

One Celtic fan wrote: "Nancy can go and take Schmeichel with him."

Another said, "Nancy and the board', accompanied by a goodbye emoji.

A third added: "Just pack it in and call the season off."

It looks like not many will want to see Nancy stay after the derby defeat. Most have seen enough of what he has to bring to the table. As one fan wrote: "Get him out. I’ve seen enough. This is just beyond it."

Journalist Mark Hendry wrote: "Celtic could be destroying any team at the break but give Wilfried Nancy a half-time team talk and they fall to pieces. Has happened multiple times this season. What on earth does he tell his players in the changing room?"

To be very honest, it is difficult to see how the Hoops can salvage their season from here. We have seen enough football in our lifetimes to figure out that it is not going to work out for Nancy. This is the Celtic Football Club. Managers are measured by wins and trophies here, not 15 minutes of good football here, some missed chances there. He is just not up to the task and is completely out of his depth here. But have the board?

It is safe to say that it is over for Nancy at Celtic Park. It has been for a while. But the board have allowed this nightmare to drag on for much longer than it needed to, in hopes that the Frenchman will be able to turn things around and prove their decision right. Common sense needs to prevail after this result.

It is hard to believe the situation that Celtic finds itself in. And it's all down to the series of terrible decisions that have been made over the years. Rome was not built in a day, and neither was this.

The Ange Postecoglou era was a rare bright spot, and one has to wonder what the Australian had done to get those at the club on board with his ideas. Perhaps going back to him is the only solution at the moment.

Brendan Rodgers was right to quit the moment he did. And he must be laughing right now, seeing how the club are doing in the aftermath of his exit. Release another statement, Mr Desmond. Go on.
